Due
to our remote location we do not have any phone service at camp.
One of the hurdles of operating a business in the North Maine Woods is
communicating with your patrons.
Mail is delivered to us 3 days a week at a location two
and a half miles from camp. Regular land line telephone service
ends twenty-five miles from here. Cellular phones no longer work
at camp.
This leaves email as our most reliable and fastest means of
communicating with you. We accomplish this via satellite, and all
in all it works pretty well. Occasionally a snow storm or thunder
shower will knock us off line for a bit, but typically it is only for a
few hours. It has been off for as long as an entire day, but that
has only been one time.
The ideal thing to do is leave a voice message and send
us an email as well. That way if I happen to be out where cell
service works I can get your call and return it promptly. If you
only leave a voice message, it may be several days before I get back out to
where there is cell service.
Even if I drive right out to return your call, you may
have stepped out for a bit or be on the phone and unable to take my
call. This leaves me with having to leave you a message and
us playing phone tag. When I drive either two and a half
miles through a swamp and a stream to return calls or drive fifteen
miles towards town to make calls, you can see that phone tag becomes
very frustrating for both parties.
If you are on the road and calling from your cell
phone, leave me instructions on how to text message you and I can
do that from my computer! Our voice mail is delivered to our computer so I get your
voice message right at camp, I do not have to drive out to get it.
Just be sure to leave me your text message address, name of your cell
phone carrier and your ten digit cellular number.
I will be happy to text you to try to answer questions
that you may have.
It is not the same a being able to email or talk, but we do try to cover
all of the bases that we can to help you get the answers that you are
looking for.
We realize that it is extra steps, but that is why so
many people come to visit us. We are located far enough away so
that the phone will not work and you will not be bothered by you
phone ringing while you are on vacation. If you need to check in
with someone during your stay, it is only a fifteen mile, very scenic
ride to use your cell phone.
So you see, we are not trying to be difficult and it is
not that we do not wish to talk with you. It is just not all that
simple to communicate up in this part of the woods! (Even
satellite phones do not work very well up here)
Very important.
When you leave a message be sure to include name and phone number
twice, spoken slowly and clearly. It helps these less than
perfect ears of mine to understand your message, so that I can get back to you the
next time I am in a service area.

Long gone are the days when people sat down and wrote a
letter to be sent via the US Mail, requesting a reservation.
Today we want to know if we have everything settled
before the hour, or perhaps the day is over.
As a society we do not take the time to relax anymore.
One of our goals here at Frost Pond is to get you to relax for just a
bit. We will change society one guest at a time! (Well at
least it is a great place to relax during your vacation)
