Items here will be appearing in the latest newsletter as well.
June 2008
In response to increasing fuel costs, I am working on a wood fired hot
water heater. Guests will be able to carry hot water to their
cabin (Does not apply to the cabin with plumbing and its own hot water
heater) rather than heating it on the propane stove. This will
help during the hot days of summer as well, you will not have all of
that extra heat in the cabins! Campers that are tenting will be
able to utilize this hot water as well if they wish. This will also give
you more time for fishing, hiking, or just plain relaxing!
May2008
When opening up camp this spring I decided to install electric lights in
the large cabin with plumbing. As propane becomes more and more
expensive, as the quality of the propane appears to have degraded and
the fact that one cannot purchase the good "old fashion" preformed
mantles, the quality of light in the cabins has been going down hill.
(Now the fact that some of us may be seeing through "older" eyes I am
sure does not play a factor in this situation)
By using 12 volt batteries and a small inverter I was able to increase
the light in this cabin! I use the compact florescent blubs to
help cut down on the wattage needed to provide the needed light.
(I hear that this is supposed to help the planet as well)
I know that it is much easier on the eyes and our guests who have stayed
in that cabin this year have really enjoyed the new light source.
We are still working on things to make your stay as enjoyable as
possible!
May 2008
On May 20th, 2008 the company that we purchase our cellular service
from, shut down the analog system. The new phones are great!
We can take pictures, video, and get on the internet! We can do
just about everything except make phone calls from places we have been
able to for the past 15 years. This is definitely one area where
technology is going backward rather than forward.
As a result of the service being shut down, we now have to drive 15
miles to make phone calls. We still receive our voice messages on
our computer, but unless we drive out from camp we cannot return your
call! As a result, we are asking guests to email us with their
questions. If you provide a cellular number that you can receive
text messages at, and the name of your service provider, we will attempt
to text you a message right to your phone. You can then leave us
another voice message and we will text you back. It is not the
best system, but we are located in a remote region of Maine and it is
actually pretty darn good!
At this time Email is the preferred method of communication!
